Patrons of the Gloversville Public Library are now able to listen to audio books downloaded from the NetLibrary collection.
|
Portable eAudiobooks from NetLibrary and Recorded Books are digital version of books-on-tape or CD. Access to these titles is made possible by your local library.
You can listen to eAudiobooks on your computer or on a wide range of portable devices including portable music players (MP3), portable media centers, Pocket PCs
and even select smartphone devices.
What You Need
- Portable device (MP3)
- Windows Media Player, version 9 or higher (it is recommended that you do not use the software that comes with your
player because it is easier for Help Support to assist you if you use a software program they are proficient in.)
The portable device must support playback of:
- secure or protected wma files
- 32 kbps files
For optimal listening, the portable device should:
- have a storage capacity of at least 512 MB (The average audiobook file is 140MB. 1 GB will hold approximately 4 books)
- support features, such as full time stamping and bookmarking, for playing long files and returning to a designated place in the file. Unlike books-on-cd, these titles to no have tracks.
And only the feature called bookmarking will stop your story and start again at the exact spot as a book-on-tape will do.
NetLibrary has tested a number of devices and provides a list that work well with the eAudiobooks it offers. See http://support/oclc.org/Resolutions/TestedPlayers.pdf
for information on these devices.
Transfer and Enjoy
Transfer the eAudiobook file to your portable device using Windows Media Player, version 9 or higher. Then enjoy listening to it anywhere.
Patrons are limited to having 10 titles checked out at a time with a 3 week check out period. You can renew the license and continuing listening if you run out of time, but they can not be returned early.
When you finish listening, or the license expires, delete the eAudiobook file from your portable device following the device's instructions.
Reminder: You can not listen to eAudiobooks on an iPod or other portable devicethat does not support playback of secure or protected wma files.
