When applying, please bring:
#1 – Photo ID with signature
- Dept. of Motor Vehicle ID (NYS or other)– license or non-license ID
OR
- Another photo ID – such as Military ID, Passport, Sheriff's ID, or Department of Social Services card
(new ones have photos)
AND
#2 - Address verification
- A current utility bill in your name with address
- A check or deposit slip
- A current bill from a credit card company
- Paperwork from social services or Department of Labor, or another official agency.
- As a last resort, we can fill out a postcard and we will mail it. When you receive it, bring it in as proof.
A PO Box address only will not be acceptable. We need a street address. Patrons will be asked to fill out an
application with their name, address, home and business phone numbers, date of birth, and provide valid
driver’s license. Young Adult and Children’s applications must be signed by the applicant and a parent/guardian
who possesses a valid library card.
Using the card:
Children may take out up to 7 books. Adult and young adult patrons who re-register, may take
out up to 25 items. A new Adult or Young Adult patron may take out a total of 3 items
at one time for the first 3 months of their membership. After 3 months, adult and young adult patrons may take
out up to 25 items.
NOTE: For security reasons no one else may use your card: a library card is not transferable.
Only the person listed on the card may use it.
Forgotten cards:
Positive identification must be shown to check out materials, if the card is forgotten.
After three times, the original card must be
produced or a new card purchased.
Cost of a card:
The initial card is free. Replacement cards will cost $1.00 for adults and $.50 for children. Please remember to bring your library card with you.
Borrower's Privileges
Adult and Young Adult Patrons (ages 13 on up) may borrow a maximum of 25 items from either the children’s or adult
department. These may include books, videos, books-on-tape, book/cassette sets, magazines, audio CDs and cassettes.
Adults and Young Adult patrons have access to the Internet via the computers in the Reference Room. Sign-up at the
Circulation desk is required. A printing fee of $.10 per page is charged.
Patrons with a Child’s card (Kindergarten to 12 yrs. of age) may borrow a maximum of 7 books from either department.
Children with a parental permission slip on file with the Children’s department may access the Internet via the computers
located in the Children’s Department. Printing fee: The first 3 pages of printing are free, additional pages cost
$.10 per page.

After Hours Returns:
A book drop is available to the left of the library’s front doors for after
hours returns. Items may also be returned to another library within the 8 counties served by SALS and MVLA.
Please allow enough travel time to avoid fines.
Overdue Notices and Bills:
When an item is two weeks overdue, a reminder phone call will be made to
the patron. When an item is 4 weeks overdue, a bill will be sent. The computer automatically tallies fines based on
the age of the borrower and the number of days an item is overdue

Other Libraries
The new barcoded card will enable patrons to borrow from any of the automated libraries served by Southern Adirondack Library System and Mohawk Valley
Library Association via the web catalog.
